Who We Are
A group of paddlers in and around the southern end of Cayuga Lake who love to paddle outrigger canoes (wa’a in Hawaiian). We practice regularly from May through October and compete in races during the summer as part of the East Coast Outrigger Racing Association (ECORA).
When We Paddle
Our regular club practices are Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings. Sunday morning practices are our most beginner-friendly, so we recommend prospective and newer paddlers attend on a Sunday for their first practice. We also have more intense training practices on Thursday evenings. The times listed reflect when the boats leave shore, so if you are attending, pleaseĀ arrive 15 minutes prior to park, change, and get any equipment you need.
Even if you’ve never paddled a wa’a before, come join us!
Meet at East Shore Marina for practices and prepare to get a little wet.
Cayuga Outrigger Canoe Club, Inc. is a New York State not-for-profit corporation formed in August 2008 for the promotion of outrigger canoe paddling. We paddle regularly on Cayuga Lake from May through October and participate in races during the summer on a club and individual basis.
We are a dues-supported organization. If you would like to try paddling with the club, you can come practice with us for $10/practice prior to committing to becoming a member. The club owns several paddles and all required safety gear, however if you prefer to wear a PFD while paddling you will need to buy your own. During cold water periods (early season until about mid-June) all paddlers must wear a PFD and be dressed appropriately (all synthetics, warm hat, etc.).
If you would like more information about the club, please email: info@cayugaoutrigger.com.
Thanks and hope to see you on the water!
