Open House/Novice Paddle!

Do you like sun, water, physical activity, teamwork, and the environment of Cayuga Lake? Come see and experience the lake by paddling an outrigger canoe! The Cayuga Outrigger Canoe Club invites you to our open house/novice paddle this Saturday, July 13, from 11am to 1pm at the Merrill Sailing Center on East Shore Drive, next to East Shore Park.

Our club’s focus is paddling six-person outrigger canoes (OC6s), which involves and develops both individual paddling ability and working together as a team. The open house/novice paddle will introduce you to both – while also giving you an on-the water view of Cayuga Lake in the summer!

The paddle is free and open to people of all skill and ability level, from beginners and novices to those with more experience paddling other craft. We’ll provide all equipment, including paddles and PFDs, but you should dress appropriately – be prepared to get wet since it is a water sport! We’ll give some brief on-land instruction and go over safety guidelines, then take folks out on the water for as many paddle sessions as time permits. We’ll also have snacks and water, but feel free to bring something to share.
